Star Wars Battlefront II

Star Wars Battlefront II

I originally wasn't going to buy an Xbox. However, my son was playing Xbox at his friend's house and was interested in games only available in this format, such as Halo. So for Christmas I bought him an Xbox. One of the games we eventually bought for the Xbox was Star Wars Battlefront II. In this game, you play in either the original Star Wars time frame, era of the Empire (Episodes IV, V, VI) or the time of the Republic (Episodes I, II, III). In the Republic time, you either play as Republic Clone Troopers, or you play as the Battledroids of the Confederacy. In the Empire time, you play as either the Empire's Stormtroopers, or Rebel Alliance soldiers. In the game play, you do ground battles, or you can fly fighter craft in dogfights. Battles take place on or above worlds established in the Star Wars movies such as the ice planet Hoth, volcanic world Mustafar, Wookie world Kashyyyk, and the moon of Endor, to name a few. One thing that adds interest to the game play is you are able to occasionally play as a hero. For the Rebel Alliance you can be Luke, Leia, Han or Chewbacca, depending on the world you are fighting on. For the Empire, the heroes are Darth Vader, the Emperor, Anakin Skywalker or Boba Fett. Republic heroes are Obi Wan, Yoda, or other Jedi Knights. The Confederacy has characters such as Jango Fett, Darth Maul, Count Dooku and General Grievous. Every hero has their own special abilities. The Jedi can use the force to push or pull an enemy off their feet, strike with light sabers or even throw them at enemies. The Sith also strike with light sabers, but some throw their sabers while others use the dark side in an electricity strike, or choke an enemy from a distance. The Fetts have no light sabers, but can fly and have flame throwing weapons and rockets. Han has explosive charges he can remote detonate, while Leia has thermal detonator grenades. All heroes take far more hits than normal characters. One of the things I really like about this game is that as the player gains experience while playing, the game makes your character easier to control in targeting enemies and harder to kill. You also can play with friends/family in multi-player mode fighting with, or against each other. Although I bought this game for the Xbox, it was also made for the PC.
